THE ACTIVATED EMITTER: THE KEY TO FIELD DESORPTION (FD) AND FIELD IONIZATION(FI) MASS SPECTROMETRY(MS)
Essential factors in FD MS and Fl MS analysis are detection sensitivity, rate of fragmentation and stability of the ion Signal. These factors are extremely dependent on the quality of the activated emitter. Hence, the emitter is the key to a high performance analysis.
EXPERIENCE AND RESEARCH AS THE BASIS FOR INNOVATION
With many years' experience in FD MS and Fl MS, and involvement in ongoing, intense research into the mechanism of carbon microneedle growth, we evaluated what is important in the production of activated emitters. This knowledge served us as a basis for the development of different types of emitters for different analytical needs.
These emitters are the CARBOTEC ALLROUND, a multi-purpose emitter for FD MS and Fl MS; the CARBOTEC Fl, specially for Fl MS; and the CARBOTEC FD, which offers an exceptionally strong ion emission current in FD MS.
Detailed specifications of the different CARBOTEC emitters are found on the following pages.
QUALITY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY
Production of the CARBOTEC emitters is based upon classical high temperature activation with indene as the activation gas. Hence, the carbon microneedles of CARBOTEC emitters consist of pure pyrocarbon.
As a result, they offer great mechanical strength, good adhesion to the tungsten wire and high chemicat resistance against field corrosion. This increases considerably the durability of CARBOTEC emitters which, even after several analyses, do not lose their sensitivity.
CARBOTEC emitters are subjected to rigorous quality control at each stage of production.
CARBOTEC emitters are available for all types of FD mass spectrometers.
